The judges’ verdicts are in!
The 2010 Blues Camp auditions:
a roaring success!
Montreal, Monday, May 3, 2010 - Hundreds of young blues fans overcame their nerves and jitters last weekend to showcase their enormous musical talent at École Marguerite-De Lajemmerais in the hope of earning one of the 55 places available at the 5th edition of the Blues Camp presented by TD. The judges were blown away by the calibre of their performance, and the 2010 crop of this 100%-free musical camp, running from June 28 to July 4, as part of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, is sure to wow the public!
Up-and-coming (blues) geniuses
With the auditions over and fully digested, 50-odd aspiring bluesmen and blueswomen will have the chance to take part in the now-famous Blues Camp, a musical dream week where they can hone their skills and expand their knowledge, under the guidance of a veritable mini-brigade of experts from the blues world.
Over 300 young blues fiends displayed their courage and musical prowess before the judges last weekend. The musicians, classified by age (from 13 to 17) and level, demonstrated their know-how in all instrument categories-guitar, drums, piano, bass, brass, harmonica, vocals-before a panel of professional musicians and music teachers. The best candidates were then invited to an interview to talk about themselves, their areas of interest and their passion. With enthusiasm to burn, these teens, some of whom were supremely gifted took to the stage and made a huge impression on the judges and public at this 5th year of the Blues Camp auditions. And if the auditions are any indication of the heaps of talent of the participants, the Camp’s final concert is sure to be absolutely… spectacular!
From June 28 to July 4, some fifty young people will live out their musical dreams and passions, sharing their love of the blues and showcasing their instrumental talents over the course of seven days, all completely free of charge. In close proximity to the Festival site, cégep du Vieux Montréal will witness their discoveries, their apprenticeship, and their journey to expertise. And on July 4, as part of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, get ready for an incredible concert on the TD stage! Our young candidates will strut their stuff for a live audience in the Blues Camp closing concert, just like the pros!
