Technological innovations in the Festival’s cyberspace

The Festival accessible around the clock!

Montreal, Monday, June 7, 2010 - The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is proud to present the latest and newest functionalities of its website, MontrealJazzFest.com. In fact, 2010 represents yet another giant stride forward for the world’s biggest jazz festival, presented by TD in collaboration with Rio Tinto Alcan. Festival fans can now download the Festival’s latest mobile application onto their iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad or BlackBerry, as well as view a vast array of audio and visual excerpts on the brand-new MontrealJazzFest.TV! These two projects were made possible thanks to support from Bell.

A mobile Festival

The Festival not only revamped its website for its 30th edition, but is now mastering the techno sphere by offering its fans a mobile application that will let them experience the Festival anywhere anytime on a smart phone, an iPod Touch or an iPad, with a few simple clicks or tactile manipulations!

Mobile application for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad:

§ Festival program

  • The entire program and artist information sheets, complete with photographs, biographies, links, and ticket purchase;
  • The capacity to browse events by date, artist, series or concert hall;
  • A search function for concerts or artists;
  • The capacity to select concerts to create a personalized schedule;
  • Three photo albums (Festival Legends, and best photos of 2008 and 2009);
  • Links and options for sharing with the social media (Facebook and Twitter);

§ Festival information:

  • “Contact us,” “Boutique,” “Tickets”;
  • List of sponsors and partners;
  • Information on accommodation packages;
  • Stage map (created by the Festival);
  • Google map of the site, with links to concert hall programs;

§ Participatory component allowing (as of June 25):

  • Photos to be sent from a mobile device;
  • Comments to be posted on photos of festival-goers and of the Festival.

iPhone users will receive continual updates, while iPod Touch users will receive updates when plugged in to the Internet via their WiFi connection. However, information will always be available for consultation even if they’re not hooked up to the Internet.

Mobile application for your BlackBerry

The application will also be available to BlackBerry smart phones, providing the complete Festival program and all other information relevant to the Festival. However, the presentation will differ from the version available for Apple devices.

The perfect video channel for all music lovers

From now on, the Festival will be grouping all its video offerings at the same address: www.MontrealJazzFest.TV! For the entire duration of the Festival, a film crew will be making the rounds of the Festival’s concert halls and outdoor stages to record videos. The MontrealJazzFest.TV channel will broadcast excerpts of the opening pieces at some 100 concerts. Our video crew will also be covering the Festival’s press conferences, accompanied by an in-house journalist who will conduct video interviews of the top-billing artists and Festival organizers.

Other features will include video excerpts on Sympatico’s EnMusique.ca/Jazz, and on various social networks. And both bloggers and other creators of Web content will have the opportunity to include videos on their sites.

And so, on www.MontrealJazzFest.TV, internetter Festival fans will have access to excerpts from the best concerts dating back to the very first edition in 1980, including a number of Festival Legends and famous artists, in addition to interviews with artists and coverage of the media activities for the Festival’s 29th and 30th editions (2008 and 2009).

30 years of passion just a click away!

You will recall that the MontrealJazzFest.com underwent a total makeover from A to Z especially for its 30th, was entirely revamped and is now more efficient than ever. User-friendly and incredibly practical, it opens the door to 30 years of passion with a simple click, bringing you to a truly dynamic, enriched reference site. From now on, it offers more video excerpts, more music excerpts, and more information on artists, all enhanced by the latest music updates and access to the archives of the Festival’s earlier editions.

The 31st edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal will run from June 25 to July 6, 2010.
