The 4th edition of the Montreal Guitar Show
Thank God it’s Friday!
Montreal, Wednesday, June 30, 2010 - The 4th edition of the Montreal Guitar Show (MGS) presented as part of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal will kick off this Friday at 2 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Montréal! From then until July 4, guitar fiends and fans will dabble in paradise with the dazzling array of activities offered, including many free concerts, workshops, lectures, a two-part exhibitor space, where over 130 luthiers will be showcasing their acoustic and electric masterpieces, They will also have the chance to mingle with more than 200 musicians and specialists from around the world, and better still: guitarophiles will be able to make the purchase of a lifetime: their dream guitar!
The MGS is an unparalleled gathering of amateurs and pros, luthiers, musicians and specialists. Guitar masterworks created by a handful of the most talented luthiers on site will be placed in the skilled hands of guitar maestros in some 60 mini-concerts presented by Premier Guitar. The dozen or so concerts in the Guitare Guitare series presented by the Hyatt Regency Montréal will spotlight some of the world’s leading guitarists, and all for free, every evening at 6 p.m. in Salon Jeanne-Mance at the Hyatt. Lastly, the Guitarissimo The Gazette series offers eight concerts starring a phenomenal line-up of players in the Cinquième Salle at PdA. The highlight of the series will be a showcase of outstanding talent at the Soirée CandyRat Records, to be held in Théâtre Jean-Duceppe at PdA.
Workshops, lectures and unforgettable close encounters
These three days dedicated exclusively to the guitar would not be complete without some time set aside for knowledge sharing. And so, in workshops or lectures, a host of professionals, musicians and luthiers will take turns enlightening visitors on a wide selection of topics relating to their favourite instrument, as well as musicians’ tricks and tips, the ins and outs of the industry, and wise advice for collectors.
The Tribute Award goes to George Benson
First given at the third MGS, the Tribute Award underscores outstanding contributions made to the history of the guitar and to the music of the greatest international guitarists. Joining the ranks of the first recipient, Jeff Beck, it is now George Benson-The New Boss Guitar, his first album with the telling title proves to us after more than 45 years since its release that he is indeed an uncontested six-string wizard-who will receive this year’s Tribute Award.
The MGS organizing team would like to acknowledge the support received from the three levels of government through their ministries and agencies, including Industry Canada, SODEC (the Société de développement des enterprises culturelles), Canada Economic Development, and the ministère des Affaires municipales, des Régions et de l’Occupation du territoire.
Now more than ever, the Montreal Guitar Show ranks as the must-go gathering of guitar aficionados, whatever their area of interest. The fourth edition of the biggest event in the country dedicated solely to the guitar will run from Friday, July 2, to Sunday, July 4, at the Hyatt Regency Montréal. Admission is $15 (plus taxes) for adults and $12 (plus taxes, upon presentation of student ID card) for students. Check out the complete concert schedule and program at salondeguitaredemontreal.com.
