Press release for immediate distibution

A live public performance next to the Galerie Lounge TD Armand Vaillancourt…

and his Sacred Fire!

Montreal, Monday, August 29, 2011 - Yes-Armand Vaillancourt still has plenty of surprises up his sleeve! As part of the exhibition On n’a pas de printemps à perdre !-currently presented by the Galerie Lounge TD and the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal-the artist will meet his public on two very special occasions: first, a meeting-conference on Wednesday, August 31, at 6 p.m., in the Salle Stevie Wonder, where he will discuss his long career, and then on Thursday, September 8, at 6 p.m. (moved to the following day, same time, in case of rain) for a live painting performance, outdoors on the corner of Balmoral and Mayor Streets, on the side wall of the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan. Two must-see events!

Live painting performance on Balmoral St.

On Thursday, September 8 at 6 p.m., Armand Vaillancourt will present a surprising live painting performance on the wall of the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan, on the corner of Balmoral and Mayor Streets. Of course, he was one of the very first Québec artists to take art to the streets, spending three years (1953-1955) sculpting L’arbre de la rue Durocher, an elm tree condemned to destruction, before the very eyes of passersby (now exhibited in the Musée national des beaux-arts de Québec). It was his first public sculpture and also his first act as a politically/socially committed artiste engagé, defending social, cultural and environmental rights. And those who’ve already seen the artist at work-remember the magnificent gigantic mural he created with the public every evening during the 29th edition of the Festival-know this will be an unforgettable event!

An intimate lecture in the Salle Stevie Wonder

In addition, visitors can join us for a unique encounter on Wednesday, August 31 at 6 p.m., in the Salle Stevie Wonder, adjacent to the Galerie, where this extraordinary artist will navigate us through his long career with a lecture and photo display on his art and his many major projects, so intimately entwined with his commitment to social issues. And displaying the great generosity for which he is justly renowned, Armand Vaillancourt will open his many archives specially for the occasion. What a priceless privilege-to spend an evening listening to and conversing with this artist, equally famed for his verve and his sacred fire!

On n’a pas de printemps à perdre ! in the Galerie Lounge TD

This exhibition, running until September 18, offers ample testament of the freshness and dynamism that animate Armand Vaillancourt’s vividly youthful spirit. It assembles some fifty mostly recent and unseen works-paintings, prints, sculptures installations, models for future monumental public sculptures. It’s a corpus of work that has already enchanted large crowds of visitors!
