The latest addition to the Jazz All-Year Round series program!

Lucinda Williams at Métropolis this October!

Tickets go on sale this Saturday, August 23 at noon

Montreal, Thursday, August 21, 2008 - Sailing towards its 30th anniversary, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal pursues its mandate to offer year-long musical sustenance to jazzophiles with the Jazz All-Year Round series, presented by General Motors. In fact, the 2008-2009 season hasn’t even begun yet and we’re already announcing the addition of another concert to the schedule: Lucinda Williams, the queen of alt-country-rock, brings her critically-acclaimed songs to Métropolis in its cabaret setting on Thursday, October 9 at 8 p.m.! Tickets go on sale this Saturday, August 23, at noon.

Winner of three Grammy Awards, Louisianan Lucinda Williams made her debut in 1979. Nicknamed the “female Bob Dylan” and heralded as “America’s best songwriter” by TIME Magazine in 2002, Lucinda Williams mixes a powerful cocktail of blues, folk, rock and country featuring her peerless whisky-soul voice. Her 9th album, Little Honey, due this coming September, lends its name to the Little Honey Tour. The concert opens with delta blues from Roger Hubbard, Colin Gibson and Liam Genockey, the brilliant musicians of Buick 6.

Please note that excellent tickets remain available for these other concerts in the Jazz All-Year Round series:

Sarah-Jane Morris - Tuesday, September 16 and 17, 8 p.m., at Savoy du Métropolis

Cesaria Evora - September 26, 8 p.m., at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, PdA

Guy Bélanger - October 1 and 4, 8 p.m., at Lion d’Or

Peter Hammill (of Van der Graaf Generator) - October 16, 8 p.m., at Gesù - Centre de créativité

Ron Sexsmith - October 19, 8 p.m., at Club Soda

David Byrne, Songs of David Byrne and Brian Eno - October 30, 8 p.m., at Métropolis

Susie Arioli Band - November 27, 8 p.m., at Théâtre Outremont

A non-profit organization, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is pursuing its mission of disseminating and developing jazz and its musical cousins for the ninth year in a row, by reinvesting its surpluses in the presentation of special concerts in its Jazz All-Year Round series. With support from public partners, specifically, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) and Canadian Heritage, it can thus offer Montrealers and visitors to the city the chance to experience the rhythms of jazz all-year round! The Festival also recognizes the support of Bell, partner in the series, as well as the Hyatt Regency Montréal, official hotel of the Jazz All-Year Round series.
