The Rio Tinto Alcan Special Closing Event

From Montréal, the most explosive duo on

the international electro-funk scene!

Montreal, Wednesday, May 30, 2012 - How do you follow 10 days and nights of music in all its forms, 10 days of discoveries, sensations and musical pleasure? Organizers of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal left nothing to chance planning the Rio Tinto Alcan Special Closing Event of this 33rd edition, presented by TD in collaboration with Rio Tinto Alcan. Talk about “closure”! It’s one of the city’s biggest international success stories in recent years, Chromeo, the devastating duo of Montreal darlings who fire up every dancefloor and light up the greatest techno bashes and biggest festivals on five continents! It’s a band we haven’t been able to catch performing here in anything but a completely sold-out show, but they’re parking the party at the Festival for a massive free outdoor event-and their only Montreal date of the year!-on Saturday, July 7,on the TD Stage at 9:30 p.m.

One is an intellectual working on a Ph. D. in French literature. The other rocks perfect ghetto style behind his keyboard. Together, they shake up the most explosive cocktail on the Montreal electro-funk scene! The duo of P-Thugg and Dave 1, self-described as the sole Jewish-Arab collaboration in history, rock the modern ballroom with synth grooves, guitar and talkbox, and a slick, suave look. Their recipe? 100% positive energy, a sexy-cool attitude and irresistible beats that blast us into the electro-funk stratosphere. In their final Montreal show before the release of a 4th album, they’ll perform with a choir and string section for the very first time!

Two must-see Grands événements: Rufus Wainwright and Escort

Don’t forget: the Festival invites fans to a pair of major events on Thursday, June 28 and Tuesday, July 3. To kick off the festivities in high style, organizers have booked a concert that will undoubtedly go down in history: a TD Grand Opening Event with Rufus Wainwright, an artist we’ve always hoped to present in a major outdoor performance in his hometown. The first native Montrealer to launch the Festival with a free concert, he’ll treat us to his first visit to the Festival, after years of invitations and requests from organizers. And to add a special luster to this programming masterstroke, we remind you that he’s bringing us the Montreal showcase of his new album, Out of the Game. Thursday, June 28.

On Tuesday, July 3, Escort Fever takes over the Place des Festivals! In keeping with a longstanding tradition of presenting a special mid-Festival event starring an exciting new discovery, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is proud to introduce the city to THE sensation of the hour on the super-hip Brooklyn scene in the Grand free outdoor event. Taking us back to the heart of the ’70s disco era and its codes, a booming 17-piece party-machine powerhouse prevails onstage over machinery, preserving the organic authenticity of a genre that made history. Escort promises a high-voltage musical mirrorball of a concert that will leave everyone happily weak-kneed!

Complete programming for free outdoor concerts and activities at the 33rd edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal will be announced this coming June 5.

The 33rd edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal will run from June 28 to July 7.
