A new wave of guitarists show off their skills at
the 3rd Montreal Guitar Grand Prix!
Free grand finale and show, beginning Sunday at 8 p.m. in Club Soda
Montreal, Tuesday, September 10, 2008 -Fans are invited to discover and encourage guitarists of all ages who will unveil their talents in the 3rd Montreal Guitar Grand Prix, as part of the SIMM (the Montreal Musical Instrument Show). Presented by Godin Guitars in collaboration with Steve’s Music Store and Couleur Jazz, the contest unfolds this Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28, first in the Savoy du Métropolis, then in Club Soda for the grand finale. Participants can register in one or two of the following categories: classical, acoustic (fingerstyle, fingerpicking and flatpicking), jazz (archtop or gypsy) and blues / rock. Registrations will be accepted at grandprixdeguitaredemontreal.com until September 25 at 5 p.m. Along with offering our homegrown aspiring guitarists the opportunity to express their musical passion and live out their dreams onstage, this unique event also invites fans to enjoy two days’ worth of free performances, as well as a special concert by Genesis guitarist Daryl Stuermer.
Preliminary auditions will be held over two days, on Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28 before a live audience in the Savoy du Métropolis. Participants will be required to choose and present a piece (original or cover) to the jury. Final auditions will be held in Club Soda-once again before a live audience-on Sunday, September 28, starting at 8 p.m., featuring those three candidates who excelled in their respective categories during the preliminary auditions. And for our grand finale, guitarist Daryl Stuermer, a veteran performer with Genesis and Phil Collins as well as a solo artist, will present a free concert.
Along with recognizing the talents of our finest guitarists and offering them onstage performance experience, the Montreal Guitar Grand Prix offers them the chance to take home thousands of dollars in prizes courtesy of Godin Guitars and Steve’s Music Store, our official suppliers, Marshall amplifiers, DigiTech guitar effects and Samson audio components, as well as the SIMM, the Montreal Guitar Show and the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal.
The SIMM, presented by General Motors du Canada as part of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, proudly joins the 12th annual Journées de la culture program with this 3nd edition of the Montreal Guitar Grand Prix. This event shares the SIMM philosophy of promoting hands-on musicianship in the greater public, and is designed to offer that crucial first onstage experience to up-and-coming talent.
