The Steve Kuhn-Steve Swallow-Billy Drummond Trio
and Room Eleven join the program

Montreal, Wednesday, September 17, 2008 - The 2008-2009 season program of the Jazz-All Year Round series, presented by General Motors, just keeps getting better! An already exciting roster of acts now welcomes the brilliant Steve Kuhn, Steve Swallow and Billy Drummond trio, as well as the bracingly fresh Dutch group Room Eleven. In addition, renowned jazz pianist Steve Kuhn will offer a glimpse into the jazz life by hosting a unique masterclass. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Thursday, September 18 at noon.

Steve Kuhn/Steve Swallow/Billy Drummond Trio - October 3 and 4, 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill - Steve Kuhn, one of jazz piano’s brightest lights, Steve Swallow, a titan of jazz bass, and Billy Drummond, a drummer perched at the crossroads of jazz tradition and musical adventure. Three of the most respected players in jazz, multiple award winners, esteemed by critics and fans alike… and who find their utmost musical fulfillment in their favourite format, the trio!

Masterclass with Steve Kuhn - October 4, 1 p.m., Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill - At 70, jazz pianist Steve Kuhn has seen-and played-it all. Small wonder: he’s been playing since the age of 5, and not with just anybody! From his earliest days with renowned teacher Margaret Chaloff, he went on to play with Art Farmer, as well as with John Coltrane’s quartet and his own trios. Now, here’s your chance to sit in on a masterclass sure to thrill and enrich any fan of piano: 65 years of knowledge from center-stage to backstage, from a career and a life entirely devoted to jazz!

Room Eleven - October 9, 8:30 p.m., Savoy du Métropolis - They’re five flying Dutchfolk, still in their twenties, who’ve been lighting up bars and festivals from Rotterdam to Tokyo. And when Janne Schra takes to the mic-ably supported by Arriën Molema’s guitar, Tony Roe’s keyboards, Lucas Dols’ bass and Maarten Molema’s drums-it’s clear that the rest of planet jazz is fixed in their sights, unaware of the charm offensive about to hit it! Fresh, ebullient, dangerously seductive: bossa nova, pop, jazz, folk, blues, it’s all here, in two albums and an array of acclaimed shows bursting with a finger-poppin’ vibe that says “cocktails, anyone?”

Please note that excellent tickets remain available for these other concerts in the Jazz All-Year Round series:

Sarah Jane Morris - Tonight, 7 p.m., at Savoy du Métropolis

A non-profit organization, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is pursuing its mission of disseminating and developing jazz and its musical cousins for the ninth year in a row, by reinvesting its surpluses in the presentation of special concerts in its Jazz All-Year Round series. With support from public partners, specifically, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) and Canadian Heritage, it can thus offer Montrealers and visitors to the city the chance to experience the rhythms of jazz all-year round! The Festival also recognizes the support of Bell, partner in the series, as well as the Hyatt Regency Montréal, official hotel of the Jazz All-Year Round series.
