A very intimate solo concert

Katie Melua

acoustic in Métropolis!

Tickets go on sale Saturday at noon

Montreal, Tuesday, March 31, 2009 - Last year, she gave her first major North American performance in Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier for the opening concert of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. This year, a solo Katie Melua invites her fans to an intimate acoustic tête à tête in Métropolis, cabaret-style (with seating for everyone!), on Saturday, May 23 at 8 p.m., part of the 9th edition program of the Jazz All-Year Round series presented by General Motors. Tickets go on sale this Saturday, April 4 at noon.

At the tender age of 19, her first album was a phenomenal UK success. In 2005, her sophomore release was an even bigger hit. There’s been no stopping her ever since. In 2007, she scored again with a third album, Pictures. Now a global star and one of her generation’s blue-chip artists, beautiful 24-year-old Katie Melua has sold nine million albums; audiences everywhere are beguiled by her elegant simplicity, her alluring voice, her blue-tinged pop-jazz, and a presence at once intense and restrained, charming and natural. Small wonder, then, that the Georgian-born British singer followed the incredible success of her first three albums with a Best of released last autumn… a treat for fans to savour as they await Live At The O2 Arena, due for release in May!

A non-profit corporation, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal enters the 9th consecutive year of its mission to develop and promote jazz and its related musics, reinvesting its surplus in special concerts as part of the Jazz All-Year Round series. With the support of public partners, specifically the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) and the Canadian Heritage minister, the Festival can offer Montrealers and visitors the pleasure of living to the rhythm of jazz all year ‘round! The Festival also recognizes the support of Bell, our partner in the series, as well as the Hyatt Regency Montréal, official hotel of the Jazz All-Year Round series.
