The 30th anniversary of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal
A revamped website!
Montreal, Wednesday, June 3, 2009 - The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is especially proud to present web-surfing fans with our brand new website. Welcome to our redesigned online home, montrealjazzfest.com, offering simplified navigation and plenty of user-friendly tools, and throw open the doors to the Maison du Festival Online and its 30-year Festival archives. An improved Bell Info-Jazz tool, the site’s new interface will offer music fans a year-round internet reference point to complement the summer Festival period.
30 years of passion and emotion, just a click away!
Jazz fans who love evolved web content will find something for everyone… and plenty of it! More video and music clips, more information on artists, content featuring music news, access to archives from previous editions of the Festival and an improved tool for researching the concerts on the program. Here’s a brief overview of the site’s new wrinkles:
The Festival day by day
To discover the day’s roster of concerts, all the artists who’ve performed or will perform at the Festival, video interviews, anecdotes, jazz news, the online boutique… Visit montrealjazzfest.com for answers to all your questions about the Festival and its artists!
Friends of the Festival
Welcome to the ultimate zone where fans from here, there and everywhere are invited to join the online action. Fans who register can create their own personalized concert schedules, publish them, leave comments and share them all with friends… They can also post their personal Festival memories and experiences, via texts, photos, and audio and video commentaries. All Festival contests are also found in the Friends of the Festival section.
Fans will love this completely redesigned space, where they can pore over thousands of artist files (archived since 1980) and consult our permanent content, including the pages of 30 previous Festival editions. And let’s not forget the artists starring in the current program! Each artist has a detailed profile on the site, including biographical content (short or long), photos, videos, articles, interviews…
Legends of the Festival
In its 30 years, the Festival has seen one or two big names grace its program… among them, 24 legendary figures, including Oscar Peterson and Pat Metheny. Complete dossiers have been created on those artists who’ve left their mark on the world’s largest jazz festival.
Meet the great musical families of jazz, discover which artists have performed most frequently at the Festival since its inception, and the newcomers playing the 2009 edition… In short, take a tour through 30 years of Festival history, both great and small, by browsing through the different featured topics.
Maison du Festival Online
The Maison du Festival Online features 30 years of precious archives. Take an overview of three decades covered by the Festival, whether consulting the program of our very first edition, enjoying memories and anecdotes from Festival founders, Alain Simard and André Ménard (via video clips) or browsing from year to year. It’s an online trip through time! This section of the new site also presents the services offered by the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan: exhibition hall, bistro, the live showroom L’Astral, etc.
A web radio devoted to the Festival
In partnership with Radio-Canada’s Espace Jazz, our official web radio, the new Festival website presents two theme channels. The first features the greatest hits of 24 Festival legends, in rotation all year-round. The second showcases the artists playing the 2009 edition, in rotation until September.
This section showcases video or audio concert and interview clips, photo albums, and other multimedia content available on the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal site: audiovisual archives for every taste!
It’s plain to see our new site doesn’t simply feature a new design; from now on, visitors will enjoy an entirely original and user-friendly way to visit the Festival, browsing through its many activities. The new montrealjazzfest.com offers the most interesting reference content available, making it a virtual online jazz encyclopedia. The site will be enhanced and updated constantly as new features and additions develop. All the more reason to come back and visit often!
This web project was made possible thanks, among others, to financial support from the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund and Industry Canada, as well as the AV Trust Fund and Canadian Heritage, who enabled the conservation of part of our audiovisual archive.
The 30th edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal will run from June 30 to July 12, 2009.
