Kicking off the 3rd edition
of the Montreal Guitar Show
Tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Montreal, Thursday, July 2, 2009 - The 3rd edition of the Montreal Guitar Show (MGS) opens tomorrow, at 11 a.m., in its new playground, the Palais des congrès de Montréal! From July 3 to 5, connaisseurs and the simply curious can join in an array of activities, attend a full spectrum of concerts, meet over 200 musicians and specialists from all over the world, and of course, admire-and buy!-their dream guitars in our exhibition hall where over 130 of the finest luthiers will exhibit their masterworks.
Concerts, concerts and more concerts!
The MGS is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the musical stylings of your favourite guitarist. Enjoy over fifty 15-minute mini-concerts in the Palais des congrès de Montréal, featuring magnificent instruments loaned to outstanding players by some of our most gifted luthiers. Also, the Salon Jeanne-Mance in the Hyatt Regency Montréal will host over twenty free concerts in the Guitare Guitare series, in which die-hards can enjoy their favourite six-stringers-including Philippe Bernier, Iván Garzón Negrete, and Kenny Smilovitch, to name a few-performing intimate sets. Still not enough? The Guitarissimo series assembles a roster of phenomenal guitarists-Monte Montgomery, Peppino D’Agostino, Russell Malone, Sylvain Provost, Frank Vignola, Olivier Langevin, Don Alder, Muriel Anderson, Valérie Duchâteau and Stanley Jordan-for a slate of memorable concerts in the Cinquième Salle in Place des Arts.
Tons of workshops, conferences and rewarding musical encounters
The Palais des congrès will be transformed into a guitar hall of fame for our three-day run. Professionals, musicians and luthiers will be there to share their guitar passion and know-how, with workshops and conferences hosted by renowned guitarists, manufacturers, specialists and collectors.
New additions
The MGS also has a few surprises in store! We’ve devoted an entire special program to electric guitar fanatics-with a hall dedicated specifically to showcasing electric guitar exhibitors, special activities and more! Finally, for this 3rd edition of the MGS, organizers have created the Tribute Award in recognition of the incredible contribution the greatest international guitarists have made to the instrument and the music. To inaugurate this future hall of fame, Jeff Beck, one of the most respected players in the guitar pantheon, has been chosen as the first recipient of the award!
From Friday, July 3, to Sunday, July 5, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Palais des congrès de Montréal will be The destination for guitar greatness! Admission is $15. To find out all there is to know about the MGS, visit the website at montrealguitarshow.com.
