Bell Special Event starring Patrick Watson
broadcast live by Sympatico / MSN
Montréal, Friday, July 3, 2009 - The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is very happy to offer fans a special free outdoor event for this 30th anniversary, starring the “science-fiction folk” of new Montreal darling Patrick Watson. The gifted artist will transform his atmospheric and cinematic pop into a super-concert featuring a string quartet, horns and special guests, including Lhasa de Sela and Guy Nadon… and other surprises. This Bell Special Event-broadcast live by the Sympatico / MSN portal-will be held Sunday, July 5 on the General Motors stage at 9 p.m., on the new Place des Festivals, now ready to welcome the masses to this major music bash!
After the immense success of last year’s live webcast of the Bell Special Event starring Bran Van 3000, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal and Sympatico / MSN come back even stronger with this major concert by Patrick Watson, the new prophet of Québécois music! Following a world tour with the splendid Wooden Arms, he swoops into the Festival with a massive free outdoor spectacle. For his return, “site direction” of the event (pyrotechnics, etc.) will be handled by François Bérubé (former vice president of Production at the Festival, now with Cirque du Soleil), who handled the Grand événement General Motors with Champion et ses G-Strings at the 26th edition of the Festival. Urban interventions, projections and pyrotechnics are just a few elements in the prism of sights and sounds to come!
Patrick Watson live on Sympatico / MSN’s En Musique
To share the joy with as many people as possible and keep the party going, Bell offers online fans the opportunity to follow the concert live at enmusique.ca/patrickwatson or watch a taped version. enmusique.ca/patrickwatson has been accessible since June 15, offering fans the July 5 webcast (and the replay as of the following day at noon), as well as video clips, photos from the press conference and concert and song samples from the new album. And if that wasn’t enough, a special contest will allow a lucky winner to meet the members of the group! It’s a mind-blowing visit to the Patrick Watson universe.
Reminder: security arrangements
for the Bell Special Event starring Patrick Watson
This year, our big events will be held on the brand-new Place des Festivals, located on Jeanne‑Mance Street between Ste. Catherine Street West and De Maisonneuve Blvd. In view of Montreal’s tremendous response to the announcement of the Patrick Watson mega-concert, we advise Festival fans to access the new site from the east, via Ontario St. East (Saint‑Laurent Metro) of the west via De Maisonneuve Blvd. (McGill Metro). Given its location, the Place des Festivals is also accessible by Jeanne‑Mance St., via Sherbrooke St.
For security reasons, folding chairs and lawn chairs will not be permitted on the site; strollers will be permitted, but are strongly discouraged. As always, bicycles and rollerblades will not be permitted on the site, (although they can be left in the TD Canada Trust bicycle parking lot located next to Saint-Laurent Metro), and cans and glass bottles are also forbidden. However, we advise Festival fans to bring a supply of water (in plastic bottles). Please note that it is forbidden to bring alcoholic beverages onto the site.
The Festival advises the public to travel to the concert from east to west and from north to south; the use of mass transit is strongly advised. Once on site, fans can always access the specially-security corridors, exclusively to exit the site during the performance. These “One Way” corridors can therefore be used to leave the site, but not to return. They lead directly to the Place‑des‑Arts Metro station, to Complexe Desjardins and to De Maisonneuve Blvd, east and westbound. Given these are, by definition, traffic corridors, pedestrians are not permitted to remain standing in them.
People in wheelchairs must contact Hector Poblete at 514-288-1424, local 4540, on the eve of the concert in order to reserve a space on the esplanade.
The 30th edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal runs until July 12, 2008.
