Six-string aficionados and prodigies are invited
to the 4th Montreal Guitar Grand Prix!
Montreal, Tuesday, September 8, 2009 - Presented by Godin Guitars in collaboration with Steve’s Music Store, the 4th Montreal Guitar Grand Prix will take place Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27, first in the Savoy du Métropolis, then in L’Astral for the grand finale. Participants can register in one or two of the following categories: classical, acoustic (fingerstyle, fingerpicking and flatpicking), jazz (archtop or gypsy) and blues/rock. Registrations will be accepted at montrealguitargrandprix.com until September 24 at 5 p.m. In addition to giving applicants a chance to rock the floorboards and live a totally unique experience, the event offers the public an opportunity to attend these two days of performances free of charge, not to mention a free concert on closing night.
Preliminary auditions will be held over two days, on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27 before a live audience in the Savoy du Métropolis. Participants will be required to choose and present a piece (original or cover) to the jury. Final auditions will be held in L’Astral-once again before a live audience-on Sunday, September 27, starting at 8 p.m., featuring those three candidates who excelled in their respective categories during the preliminary auditions.
Along with recognizing the talents of our finest guitarists and offering them onstage performance experience, the Montreal Guitar Grand Prix offers them the chance to take home thousands of dollars in prizes courtesy of Godin Guitars and Steve’s Music Store, our official suppliers, Marshall amplifiers, DigiTech guitar effects and Samson audio components, as well as the SIMM, the Montreal Guitar Show and the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal.
The SIMM, presented as part of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, proudly joins the 13th annual Journées de la culture program with this 4th edition of the Montreal Guitar Grand Prix. This event shares the SIMM philosophy of promoting hands-on musicianship in the greater public, and is designed to offer that crucial first onstage experience to up-and-coming talent.
