Colin James at Métropolis January 30

(in Grand Cabaret configuration)

The guitarist and singer delivers two performances of his new show as part of the Jazz All Year Round series

Montreal, Thursday, September 24, 2009 - The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is happy to announce the return of famous guitarist and singer Colin James to Montreal, as part of the 2009-2010 season of the Jazz All Year Roud series presented by TD Canada Trust. Hitmaker behind such Canadian rock classics as Why’d You Lie?, Voodoo Thing and Five Long Years, the musician burns up the floorboards of the Métropolis on Saturday, January 30 at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. with tracks from his forthcoming album Rooftop and Satellites, a 13th effort zinging between rock, pop, blues and soul, cowritten with, among others, former Junkhouse leader, Tim Wilson. Tickets for these new concerts presented at the Métropolis, in Grand Cabaret configuration (reserved seating), go on sale this Friday, September 25 at noon.

A renowned artist, guitar wizard and true Canadian rock icon, winner of 6 JUNOs and 3 Maple Blues Awards, at 45, Colin James’ career spans over 25 years and 13 albums - including a number certified gold. First noticed by blues legend Stevie Ray Vaughan when he was just 18, James has rocked stages throughout Canada and the U.S., alongside such blues and rock immortals as John Lee Hooker, ZZ Top, Steve Winwood and Keith Richards. Since the release of his self-titled blockbuster 1988 debut, James has shown an all-too-rare artistic integrity, exploring genres and writing music that obeys no trends; his latest, Rooftop and Satellites, due October 6, carries forward that same passion, that same willingness to flout convention in the pursuit of musical honesty.

A non-profit organization, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is pursuing its mission of disseminating and developing jazz and its musical cousins for the tenth year in a row, by reinvesting its surpluses in the presentation of special concerts at its Jazz All-Year Round series. With support from public partners, specifically, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) and Canadian Heritage, it can thus offer Montrealers and visitors to the city the chance to experience the rhythms of jazz all-year round! The Festival also recognizes the support of Bell, partner in the series, as well as the Hyatt Regency Montréal, official hotel of the Jazz All-Year Round series presented by TD Canada Trust.
