This week-end, the Montreal Guitar Grand Prix revs up for its 4th edition!

Free admission to preliminary auditions and the grand finale, on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27

Montreal, Thursday, September 24, 2009 - A centuries-old invention, the most-played and popular instrument in history, the guitar has long been an object of fascination. Acoustic or electric, in the hands of Hendrix, King, Reinhardt, Metheny and others, it has left its mark across time, trends and genres, ignited passions and fired up crowds across the eras and continents. In its 4th edition, the Montreal Guitar Grand Prix celebrates it once again on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27, first in the Savoy du Métropolis, site of the preliminary auditions, then moving to L’Astral, hosting the grand finale for the first time.

Six-string fanatics and other music lovers are invited to the free auditions featuring contestants, young prodigies and talents from every age group. Split into four categories - classical, blues/rock, jazz and acoustic - they’ll compete for twelve finalist positions (three per category). The finalists will showcase their talents in the grand finale, held for the first time ever in L’Astral, Sunday, September 27 at 8 p.m. In addition to enjoying the performances, fans will be asked to contribute to the evening, choosing which of the 12 finalists deserves to win the Prix du public du Festival International de Jazz de Montréal.

A free concert by Jordan Officer

In order to keep the suspense building and the crowd breathless, brilliant guitarist Jordan Officer will take the stage in the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan to perform pieces from his debut solo album, due out soon.
