Jesse Cook brings his Rumba Foundation tour to Montreal on April 8

Montreal, Tuesday, October 6, 2009 - The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal proudly presents a new show from guitarist Jesse Cook, part of the 2009-2010 season program of the Jazz All Year Round series presented by TD Canada Trust. A major figure on the contemporary flamenco scene, Cook heads to Métropolis next April 8 with songs from his latest album, The Rumba Foundation, a musical trip halfway between Colombian and Spanish traditions. Tickets for this concert go on sale this Friday, October 9 at noon.

Since his performance in Métropolis in 2007 as part of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal - a show immortalized on the DVD Jesse Cook Live at the Metropolis, nominated for a 2008 JUNO - Jesse Cook has taken part in a number of large-scale events and festivals, notably in Dubai, Singapore and London, along with dominating the genre charts with Café Mocha, the single from his remarkable Frontiers album. After a stay in Colombia where he finished up writing for The Rumba Foundation, his eighth album, in collaboration with Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto, the master guitarist unveiled the songs on a major outdoor stage during the 30th anniversary of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, accompanied for the occasion by such distinguished guests as Samba Squad, Jeremy Fisher, Amanda Martinez, Dominique Soulard, Maninho Costa and Rosendo Leon Sr. Following the release of his latest album, fusing vallenato and rumba flamenco, Cook kicked off a tour scheduled to run through spring 2010, taking him not only through the U.S. and Canada, but to Sardinia, the Republic of Malta, Ireland, Turkey and Poland. That impressive itinerary amply testifies to the international renown of this excellent musician.

A non-profit organization, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is pursuing its mission of disseminating and developing jazz and its musical cousins for the tenth year in a row, by reinvesting its surpluses in the presentation of special concerts at its Jazz All-Year Round series. With support from public partners, specifically, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) and Canadian Heritage, it can thus offer Montrealers and visitors to the city the chance to experience the rhythms of jazz all-year round! The Festival also recognizes the support of Bell, partner in the series, as well as the Hyatt Regency Montréal, official hotel of the Jazz All-Year Round series presented by TD Canada Trust.
