Montréal, Tuesday, May 5, 2015 — It’s taken a while, but she’s finally here! The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, presented by TD in collaboration with Rio Tinto Alcan, is proud to announce that British soul singer Joss Stone will perform at Métropolis on July 5 at 8 p.m., as part of the 36th edition of the event. Tickets go on sale today at noon.
After exploding onto the scene as a teen, atomic British soul singer Joss Stone has evolved into a music phenomenon, and then some: she has what it takes to become a legend. As the spiritual daughter of Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin, the years since Stone’s dazzling arrival have seen the little diva become a major figure, an artist both in style and substance, with a free spirit and the voice of an accomplished soulwoman. With 14 million albums sold, a Grammy Award and a list of collaborations including James Brown, Solomon Burke, Blondie, Smok ey Robinson, Ringo Starr, Jeff Beck and Mick Jagger, she lands at the Festival for the first time with a new album in hand.
Joss Stone is back with her seventh studio album, Water For Your Soul, set for release on Stone’d Records on July 17. The follow up to 2012’s The Soul Sessions Vol.2, the LP represents a musical departure for Stone. Infused with elements of reggae, ‘world’ sounds, hip hop and of course, soul, the self-written and co-produced Water For Your Soul sees Joss venturing into previously unexplored territory—collaborating with the likes of Nitin Sawney, Damian Marley and Dennis Bovell. On May 11, the debut track Stuck On You off of her upcoming album will be available as an instant-grat track via iTunes.
“She’s an all-out belter, an unapologetic admirer of Janis Joplin’s most heated moments; anything less than tragedy or fury leaves her sounding overwrought”
