Pink Martini returns to the Festival

as well as Jill Barber, Térez Montcalm and Los Amigos Invisibles
as part of the Jazz All-Year Round series

Montreal, Monday, February 11, 2013 — Organizers of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, presented by TD in collaboration with Rio Tinto Alcan, are very happy to announce the grand return of popular group Pink Martini to Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, Place des Arts, as part of the 34th edition, which will run from June 28 to July 7. To keep everybody tided over until summer, we’re also announcing concerts by Jill Barber, Térez Montcalm and Los Amigos Invisibles, part of the Jazz All-Year Round series, also presented by TD. Tickets for all these concerts go on sale Thursday, February 14 at noon, although fans can already purchase tickets for the Los Amigos Invisibles concert.

Pink Martini — June 27, 7:30 p.m., Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, PdA (Événements spéciaux TD series) — Summer means it’s time to shake up another serving of Pink Martini, the preeminent suave multicultural, multilingual orchestra renowned for their dexterously blended musical cocktail of swing, jazz, classical, pop and lounge. Under the leadership of the charming Thomas Lauderdale, the group has racked up years of sold-out shows around the world, including numerous gigs at the Festival since 2005. Their most recent stop in Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, two years ago, already seems like a distant memory… so let’s pour ourselves another musical Happy Hour! It’s the perfect opportunity to discover their new album, and renew acquaintances with the elegant China Forbes!

Jazz All-Year Round series

Jill Barber May 2, 8 p.m. — Métropolis — She has already bewitched us several times in performances during the Jazz All-Year Round series and the Festival — most recently in the summer of 2011 in Club Soda. As spellbinding as ever, Miss Barber returns to present her new album, Chansons, paying tribute to the language of Molière. Marshaling all her inimitable charm, the singer sublimely serenades us with such standards of the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s as Les feuilles mortes, La javanaise and Quand les hommes vivront d’amour. Sheer musical ecstasy.

Térez Montcalm May 16, 8 p.m. — L’Astral — Take a bit of Janis Joplin, a soupçon of Édith Piaf and a pinch of Ella Fitzgerald, and there’s no doubt you’d end up with Térez Montcalm, the timelessly unique and original singer with the unforgettable voice and heady music. After offering us an inspired tribute to her idol Shirley Horn at the Festival and in the Jazz All-Year Round series in 2011, the peerless musician returns to interpret material from a new album recorded in Brussels and slated for release in March. And we can’t wait…

Los Amigos Invisibles April 10, 8 p.m., — Club Soda — Venezuelan combo Los Amigos Invisibles has no equal in firing up dance fiestas that leave fans weak-kneed with groove-fatigue. Propelled onto the international scene in the late ’80s after recording for the uber-cool Luaka Bop founded by David Byrne, the combo has since burnt up stages with a jiggy blend of disco, pop, funk and Latin music which some credit with certain… aphrodisiac properties. The Amigos return after a 2012 Festival performance that didn’t go unnoticed!
