Montreal, Tuesday, July 3, 2018 — The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal presented by TD Bank Group in collaboration with Rio Tinto is pleased to present the 37th TD Grand Jazz Award to SHPIK, which was deemed best of five other jazz ensembles who took part in the pan-Canadian competition.
SHPIK will receive the 2018 TD Grand Jazz Award by Laurent Saulnier, Vice-President Programming, and Samia Medelci, TD Canada Trust Branch Manager, on stage at 8 p.m. at their concert at the Monument-National.
Composed of pianist and composer Arnaud Spick-Saucier, bassist Étienne Dextraze, drummer Philippe Lussier-Baillargeon and saxophonist/flutist Alex Dodier, SHPIK offers an impressionist and audacious music, inspired by the sources of jazz and film music. Evoking large spaces and reflection, from immensity to the infinitely small, their first album dares and proposes a confusing journey full of theatricality. With their inspiring breakout and their effects pedals, SHPIK brings an aerial touch to music. Their first opus Fabulation, was released in November 2016.
