The Woodkid phenomenon back by popular demand!

Montreal, Monday, July 15, 2013 — The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is happy to announce the return of Woodkid, as part of the Jazz All-Year Round series presented by TD. The French artist, who just delivered a resounding sold-out performance at the Festival, returns to the scene of that triumph, Métropolis, on October 17, at 8 p.m. Tickets for this event are already on sale.

The man behind impressive videos by Katy Perry, Moby and Lana Del Ray, director Yoann Lemoine doesn’t just have a great eye—he’s got ears. Having generated the still-growing buzz that exploded with Iron (seen over 20 million times on YouTube!), the versatile French artist works under the pseudonym Woodkid to fashion a cinematographic pop that moves and transports the listener. Arriving at the Festival on the wave of triumph after his performance last autumn in the Grand Rex in Paris―with percussionists and an orchestra, if you please―he left a Métropolis audience stunned and dazzled, to say the least. Now he returns with the songs of his debut album, The Golden Age, enhanced by breathtaking lighting and projections. It’s the ideal opportunity to experience—or re-experience—one of the year’s most amazing concerts!

-          Raphaël Gendron-Martin, Le Journal de Montréal, 2 juillet

“The packed Metropolis crowd was fanatical throughout, but even they were frequently drowned out by the more grandiose moments of the performance. It was not hard to imagine a Greek god crashing through the ceiling during the forceful introductions to Sabat Mater and Iron, or when the heavy, pulsating low-end caused the venue to rattle.”

A non-profit organization, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is pursuing its mission of disseminating and developing jazz and its musical cousins for the 14th year in a row, by reinvesting its potential surpluses in the presentation of special concerts at its Jazz All-Year Round series. With support from public partners, specifically, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) and Canadian Heritage, it can thus offer Montrealers and visitors to the city the chance to experience the rhythms of jazz all-year round! The Festival also highlights the support of the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan, official host of the Jazz All Year Round series, as well as the support of Bell and the Hyatt Regency Montréal, partner and official hotel of the series, respectively.
