Montreal, Tuesday, December 17, 2013 — Running low on Christmas gift ideas? The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal comes to the rescue, with an array of concerts for every kind of music fanatic in the Jazz All-Year Round series presented by TD. Better yet, we’ve added a new concert by talented German pianist Nils Frahm. Tickets for this concert are already on sale.

Nils Frahm. Opening act: Douglas Dare — March 23, 8 p.m., L’Astral — German pianist and composer Nils Frahm is the talk of the avant garde and festival circuit. The classically-trained Berlin native loves to enhance his music with sonic elements that others might find intrusive (creaking floorboards, crackling static, a toilet brush on the piano strings…) and treats accidents or handicaps as challenges to overcome: for proof, consider that he recorded his latest project, SPACES, while recovering from a thumb injury. His subtle, delicate music is a delight to the ear. As an opener, enjoy the pure pop of English singer Douglas Dare.

A non-profit organization, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is pursuing its mission of disseminating and developing jazz and its musical cousins for the 14th year in a row, by reinvesting its potential surpluses in the presentation of special concerts at its Jazz All-Year Round series. With support from public partners, specifically, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) and Canadian Heritage, it can thus offer Montrealers and visitors to the city the chance to experience the rhythms of jazz all-year round! The Festival also highlights the support of the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan, official host of the Jazz All Year Round series, as well as the support of Bell and the Hyatt Regency Montréal, partner and official hotel of the series, respectively.
