Montreal, Tuesday, January 28, 2013 — The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is delighted to announce that the Jazz All-Year Round series presented by TD is set to welcome blues band MonkeyJunk and, in a co-presentation with Créations Musicales François Richard, Trio Richard-Lipsky-Herskowitz. Tickets for these two concerts go on sale tomorrow at noon.
MonkeyJunk — April 10, 8 p.m., L’Astral — Steve Marriner (guitar, vocals, harmonica), Tony D. (guitar, vocals) and Matt Sobb (drums) formed trio MonkeyJunk with a nod to a verse by legendary bluesman Son House, a pioneer in the genre. In the footsteps of the master’s legacy, the Ottawa band never ceases to amaze, both on the national scene (2012 Juno for Blues Album of the Year, 5 trophies at the 2014 Maple Leaf Blues Awards) and internationally (playing the International Blues Challenge in Memphis). Regulars at the Festival and in the Jazz All-Year Round series, the trio returns with smokin’ tracks from its new album, All Frequencies, released last autumn. More fun than a barrel of…
François Richard (Trio Richard-Lipsky-Herskowitz) — April 25, 8 p.m., L’Astral — In an utterly unique and eclectic concept, flautist François Richard, pianist Matt Herskowitz and violinist Helmut Lipsky build bridges between themes inspired by classical music, post-impressionist jazz and world. Alongside classics bursting with improvisational flair, the veteran musicians will interpret their own original compositions, in a musical encounter ennobled by its fusion of creativity, virtuosity and chemistry. The second part of the show will feature a special appearance by the Nouvel Orchestra string section.

A non-profit organization, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is pursuing its mission of disseminating and developing jazz and its musical cousins for the 14th year in a row, by reinvesting its potential surpluses in the presentation of special concerts at its Jazz All-Year Round series. With support from public partners, specifically, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) and Canadian Heritage, it can thus offer Montrealers and visitors to the city the chance to experience the rhythms of jazz all-year round! The Festival also highlights the support of the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan, official host of the Jazz All Year Round series, as well as the support of Bell and the Hyatt Regency Montréal, partner and official hotel of the series, respectively.
