Jazz All-Year Round welcomes

Montréal, Thursday, July 3, 2014 — The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is happy to announce a new crop of concerts in the Jazz All-Year Around series presented by TD. Starting in October, two renowned guitarists and a terrific trumpeter are heading in to enrich an already delicious program: Jordan Officer, Pat Metheny and Jacques Kuba Séguin. Tickets go on sale Saturday at noon (except for tickets to the Jordan Officer concert, already on sale).

Jacques Kuba Séguin — October 25, 8 p.m., L’Astral — After presenting his incredibly inspired Litania Projekt at the Festival this summer, fusing neoclassical and North European jazz influences, trumpeter and composer Jacques Kuba Séguin returns with his latest, L’élévation du point de chute, and sextet ODD LOT. Riding a wave of ceaselessly growing acclaim, he’ll perform with veteran musicians Frédéric Alarie, Jean-Pierre Zanella, André Leroux, Kevin Warren and Jonathan Cayer.

Pat Metheny Unity Group w/Chris Potter, Antonio Sanchez, Ben Williams & Giulio Carmassi — November 13, 8 p.m., Métropolis A genuine guitar genius and longtime friend of the Festival, Pat Metheny has visited us over 15 times, including the utterly unforgettable free outdoor closing Festival concert in 2005. He bursts back in with his explosive Unity Group, featuring saxophonist Chris Potter, drummer Antonio Sanchez, bassist Ben Williams and multi-instrumentalist Giulio Carmassi, presenting the band’s new album, Kin, released in 2014.

Jordan Officer November 21, 8 p.m., L’Astral — Montréal premiere — One of the darlings of this Festival, guitarist and singer Jordan Officer is back with I’m Free, a 2nd solo album hailed by the critics and recorded during a furiously creative stay in New York in the summer of 2013. Drawing on the purest blues sources, the album showcases the virtuosity and vocal talent of the winner of the Félix for Album of the Year — Jazz Creation at the ADISQ Gala in 2010. Meet a musician at the apex of his talents.

A non-profit organization, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is pursuing its mission of disseminating and developing jazz and its musical cousins for the 15th year in a row, by reinvesting its potential surpluses in the presentation of special concerts at its Jazz All-Year Round series. With support from public partners, specifically, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) and Canadian Heritage, it can thus offer Montrealers and visitors to the city the chance to experience the rhythms of jazz all-year round! The Festival also highlights the support of the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan, official host of the Jazz All Year Round series, as well as the support of Bell and the Hyatt Regency Montréal, partner and official hotel of the series, respectively.
